FIXXE

FIXXE converts currencies at mid-market rates, the neutral middle between buy and sell prices, with no bank markup. It covers more than 300 currencies with flags, including regional ones other converters often skip, plus Bitcoin, Ethereum and more than 150 other cryptocurrencies, and precious metals.

It runs on iPhone, iPad and Android, and as a home-screen web app. The interface is available in 40 languages, including right-to-left scripts. There are no ads, no accounts and no tracking.

• Three rate sources. ExchangeRate-API, a second provider and Frankfurter, which serves European Central Bank rates. If one fails, FIXXE moves to the next and shows where the numbers came from.
• Offline. The last rates stay on the device, so the calculator keeps working without a connection. Rates older than a day are flagged as old.
• Smart rounding. Your chosen precision is a minimum. If rounding would distort an amount by more than 2%, FIXXE adds decimals, so 0.94 CHF never becomes 1 and a small crypto amount never becomes zero.
• Dynamic base. Rates are based on the currency you are editing, so there is no switching back and forth.

A converter that does not depend on one API

Most converters rely on a single rate provider and show nothing when it goes down. FIXXE queries three and fails over silently, then tells you which one answered.

Rates show their age

The last rates are kept on the device, and the app marks them once they are more than a day old. The only permission the app needs is internet access, and your list, its order and your settings never leave the device.

FIXXE is for travellers, online shoppers, freelancers and anyone who prices things in more than one currency. It suits people who want a quick, trustworthy number without ads or an account, including when they are offline.
